Guided and facilitated Steering Committee in development and selection of major strategic focus areas based on a comprehensive assessment of community needs and assets.  Facilitated focus groups and community forums, collected and analyzed focus group and forum data, researched key issue areas for environmental scan, presented recommended issue areas for selection by Steering Committee for community action.  Facilitated Steering Committee in development of priority areas for focus and funding.

Facilitated collaborative planning and community meetings for HOPE VI neighborhood revitalization project. Facilitated small and large group meetings to gather input, identify needs, and formulate plans and priorities.  Designed and analyzed results of neighborhood survey to identify strengths, needs and solutions. Ensured that program plans for housing and services fit within U.S. Department of HUD HOPE VI regulations and program goals.  Prepared final HOPE VI Revitalization Plan proposal package and final Revitalization Plan which successfully obtained HUD approval and $23 million in federal funding that leveraged $75 million in additional funding.  Provided technical assistance to coordinate implementation.

Strategic Planning for Beyond Academics Program

Working with board and staff to revise Strategic Plan and develop new Vision and Mission Statement to reflect maturing of the organization from a start up to a strong, sustainable nonprofit. Facilitated board and staff SWOT analysis and review of existing goals and action steps, developed recommended plan updates and facilitated board implementation.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Coordinated planning and preparation of HOME funding application with all associated plans and documentation for development of a home for disabled adults on a sustainable farm in Whitsett area of Guilford County.  Application generated $375,000 in funding that enabled Peacehaven to build Susan’s View, which is now home to a thriving community of adults and resident assistants who actively participate in running the farm through sustainable gardening and other work with community volunteers.

Worked with State, Cities, Counties, providers of services to the homeless, advocates, and others to develop community-wide, innovative and comprehensive approaches to housing and supportive services for the homeless.  Coordinated processes of evaluation and prioritization with the various service providers.  Conducted detailed reviews of available services, analyzed gaps in services, and identified and prioritized projects of critical importance in closing the gaps and moving the community toward providing truly comprehensive continuum of care processes.  Prepared Continuum of Care funding documents and proposal packages, which have generated over $20 million in HUD McKinney-Vento federal funding.

Developed collaborative partnerships between housing authorities, local governments, residents, and service agencies to design and implement programs to enhance law enforcement and social services to identified areas of need.  Development included needs assessment, organizational capacity building, strategic planning, and results documentation.  These projects for HUD developed the communities’ capacity and structure for collaborative partnerships and programs.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: Gary, Indiana; Grafton, West Virginia; Cordele, Georgia

Guided development of community partnerships between Early Head Start Center, Family Child Care Homes, private child care providers, Guilford Partnership for Children, UNCG, Greensboro College, and others to develop strategies to target early child care needs in High Point and Greensboro NC.  Prepared grant applications that generated over $4,000,000 in U.S. Administration for Children and Families funding for implementation.
